Fibromyalgia

Johns Hopkins Health Alerts Arthritis Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia syndrome is a chronic disorder characterized by fatigue and widespread pain in the fibrous tissues of the body—the ligaments, tendons, and muscles. (A syndrome is a set of symptoms and physical findings that together characterize a particular disorder.) The name fibromyalgia describes the disorder: "fibro" refers to fibrous tissues, "my" to muscles, and "algia" means pain. People with fibromyalgia tend to feel achy and stiff all over the body.
