Our Privacy Policy:
All visitors can use the Johns Hopkins Health Alerts website without providing any personal information such as their email address, and without engaging in any registration process.
If you choose to register, you will receive an email for each condition you sign up for approximately once every three weeks. You will receive a Special Report approximately 4 times a year.
We will NEVER sell or rent your personal information to third parties, or use it for anything other than the express intention of sending you Health Alerts.
Johns Hopkins Health Alerts will not send you email that you have not agreed to receive. We may from time to time send an additional email announcing new Johns Hopkins Health Alerts information, or a new publication from Johns Hopkins Health After 50 series of publications.
You may change your mind at any time by going to Edit Preferences, to add or delete alerts you are receiving, and can remove your email address and "opt-out" of all future announcements if you so choose.
As we have said, anyone can use the information without being registered to the site. But it is important to note that every computer connected to the Internet is given a domain name and a set of numbers that serve as that computer's "Internet Protocol" IP address.
When a visitor requests a page from within the Johns Hopkins Health Alerts site, our Web servers automatically recognize that visitor's domain name and IP address. The domain name and IP address reveal nothing personal about you other than the IP address from which you have accessed our site.
Our web site may use "cookies". Cookies are small computer files that we transfer to your computer's hard drive that allow us to collect information. We use this aggregate information to examine our traffic to the site, but do not collect and evaluate this information for individuals.
Aggregate information is non-personal information about you that does not allow you to be identified or contacted, and is combined with the non-personal information of other visitors. This information simply tells us about the traffic and activity on our web site, such as what pages within the site are most popular, how much time visitors spend on the site, and how often they return. Johns Hopkins Health Alerts will not provide this aggregate information to third parties.
Our Web servers do not capture and record email addresses of the visitors unless users expressly sign up for our free email alerts, or users wish to utilize the enhanced features of this site, such as the interactive forums and the My Health Library Feature for storing alerts and special reports.
You can set your browser to reject all cookies. By using the Help button in most browsers, instructions on how to reject and remove cookies can be found. The rejection of cookies in your browser will disable the ability of our website to remember your user name, if, for example, you were using our interactive forums, and will require you to input your login information each time you visit.
Any identifying information on an individual, such as your name in the interactive forums, appears on the site only through consent of the individual. Please note that comments posted on the alerts published on our pages are open public forums not subject to any censorship or editorial input by our staff, and please act accordingly.
Why give my email address?
Any requests for your email address are solely for the purpose of providing the health alerts and other information relevant to the areas you have expressed interest in, and for allowing you access to the public forums. You will receive Johns Hopkins Health Alerts emails on a regular basis. By signing up, you also give us permission to send you to occasional emails regarding additional information and services within the Johns Hopkins Health Alerts website, such as informing you of new special reports which might be of interest.
We adhere to a strict "No-Spam" policy, which means that we do not sell, rent, or otherwise give your email address to a third party. If you use our "Email a Friend" application, Johns Hopkins Health Alerts emails the content you designate to your friend's email address and lists your email address as the sender. We use your friend's email address only for the purpose of sending your email request and for no other purpose. They will have to register themselves using the 'double opt in' method, to ensure their security and privacy.
In addition, Johns Hopkins Health Alerts will not send you email that you have not agreed to receive. We may from time to time send emails announcing new Johns Hopkins Health Alerts information. You may change your mind at any time and remove your email address and "opt-out" of all future announcements. There is an unsubscribe email at the bottom of every email we send out.
